Directions

From Highway 59, Heading North

• Exit onto Kirby Street heading towards the Astrodome.
• Cross Bissonnet Street and turn left on Sunset Drive
• Follow Sunset Drive until it ends at Fannin Street and turn right.
• Cross:
  • North MacGregor Street and pass by Hermann Hospital
  • Ross Sterling Street at the University of Texas Medical School
• Turn left onto John Freeman Avenue and proceed to the stop sign.

The Library is in the building on the left with the large lawn in front.

From Highway 59, Heading South

• Exit at Fannin Street and proceed south toward Hermann Park.
• Pass:
  • Wyndham Warwick Hotel
  • Museum-area traffic circle
  • Hermann Park on the left
• Cross:
  • North MacGregor Street and pass by Hermann Hospital
  • Ross Sterling Street at the University of Texas Medical School
  • Turn left onto John Freeman Avenue and proceed to the stop sign.

The Library is in the building on the left with the large lawn in front.

From I-45, Heading South

• Follow I-45 through downtown to Hwy288 south.
• Take 288 south and exit at North MacGregor Street and Head west towards Hermann Park.
• At the Y intersection, stay to the left (Braeswood Street).
• Turn right on Moursund Avenue and follow it until it ends.
• Turn right on Bertner Street at the three-way intersection.
• The first stop sign is at John Freeman Avenue.

The Library is in the building straight ahead with the large lawn in front.

From 610 South Loop

• Exit at Fannin Street and proceed toward downtown. You will pass:
  • Astrodome on the left
  • Women's Hospital on the left
• Cross over:
  • Old Spanish Trail
  • Braeswood
• Cross under Holcombe Street. You will pass:
  • St. Luke's Hospital on the right
  • Methodist Hospital on the right
• Turn right onto John Freeman Boulevard and proceed to the stop sign.

The Library is in the building on the left with the large lawn in front.

From Highway 288

• Exit 288 at North MacGregor Street and head west towards Hermann Park.
• At the Y intersection, stay to the left (Braeswood Street).
• Turn right on Moursund Avenue and follow it until it ends.

Directions to the Historical Research Center (El Rio)

The physical location is 8272 El Rio, Suite 190.

If driving from the Texas Medical Center --

• Travel East on Holcombe Boulevard to Almeda Street
• Turn right on Almeda, heading South toward the South Loop 610
• Pass by Michael E. DeBakey VA Hospital on the right and continue through the intersection with Old Spanish Trail
• At the second traffic light, Holly Hall, turn left
• Cross the railroad tracks and turn right on the first street, El Rio
• Travel about two blocks and turn right into the parking lot for the 8272 El Rio warehouses
• Travel straight ahead to Suite 190, at the back of the lot (A large sign, HAM-TMC Library, Historical Research Center, is visible over the loading dock as you approach the warehouse. Parking is free, so you may take any available space)
• Ring bell at the the front door around the corner from the loading dock for entry.
