HCUP databases contain a core set of clinical and non-clinical information found in a typical patient discharge abstract: listed diagnoses and procedures, status at time of discharge, patient demographics, and charges regardless of payer (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, or uninsured.) The information is translated into a single format to facilitate both multi-state and national-to-state comparisons and analyses.
