Statement of Support

Evolutionary change is a physical fact. Charles Darwin’s explanation of evolution by natural selection in 1859 has been confirmed, refined, and expanded by scientists using the fossil record, anatomical studies, biogeography, direct observations of speciation, and modern genetics. His explanation is the basis of our present scientific understanding of the way life systems have developed. We recognize the significance of Darwin’s work and honor his scientific contributions. We are glad to honor Charles Darwin in 2009, the 200th anniversary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book, On the Origin of Species.

The scientific method is a repetitive process of research, hypothesis, experimentation, analysis, and theory. Science education must be based on the logic of the scientific method. We strongly assert that the study of evolution must be an integral part of science education.
