The Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging community support of the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library.
Founded in 1958 by Houstonians who value education and research programs in Houston health care institutions, Friends assist in the HAM-TMC Library's development and expansion of collections and services offered to the medical community and general public.
Contributing funds to purchase books and computers, Friends also underwrite education and research projects, offer grants to librarians, and support The Houston Medical History Project of The John P. McGovern Historical Collections and Research Center at the Library.
For patients, their families and the general public, Friends helped establish the Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service in 1998. A circulating book collection and central electronic database on health for the public, this service serves as a model information service program and continues to expand.
To continue these efforts, as well as those planned for the future, contributions to Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library are appreciated. We thank you for your consideration.
On behalf of the Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library, we ask your support for our institution. We are the Texas Medical Center community’s premier provider and conservator of medical information resources.
The HAM-TMC Library serves the five-state region of Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma by acting as the regional medical library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region 5 (NN/LM SCR).
It is the authoritative provider and advisor for health information resources, with expert teachers on strategies and techniques for the creation, aggregation, and dissemination of current health and medical information.
Furthermore, the library is home to the John P. McGovern Historical Research Collection, as well as the newly-acquired Menninger Collection on Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis, one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of books, journals and archival materials in psychiatry, psychoanalysis and psychology.
Please join us in our commitment to support the Library through our programs: Adopt-a-Journal, the E. L. Crain Memorial Book Fund, consumer health projects, and general collection support.
The HAM-TMC Library is the cornerstone for research in the Texas Medical Center. We would very much appreciate your assistance in maintaining the library as the vital source of information for health professionals in sixteen health science institutions in Houston and many others throughout the South Central Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. Please join the Friends today!
Your contribution entitles you to a complimentary, one-year membership in the Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library.
